Electro-coagulation & ozonation

From source
to resource.

A sewage treatment plant that needs no chemicals and no biology: an electric field does the work, ozone disinfects, and the water is ready to reuse.

How it works

Electricity, not chemicals.

Electro-coagulation (EC) applies an electric field across plates to remove contaminants from water.

Current is applied to the plates of an electrolytic cell, and trace amounts of plate material dissolve into the water. It acts like adding separation chemicals, at far lower cost: suspended matter comes together into larger particles.

Oxygen bubbles formed in the cell attach to the coagulated matter and float it to the surface of the separation tank, where it is removed to a sludge tank.

The treatment path

Six steps from sewage to reuse.

  1. Lifting

Raw sewage is pumped from the equalisation or collection tank to the EC reaction chamber.

  2. Electro-coagulation

An aluminium-cell EC reactor applies a controlled electric field, and the suspended matter comes together into larger particles.

  3. Ozonation

Ozone disinfects the water in 10 to 30 minutes. It is more effective than chlorine against viruses and bacteria, leaves no harmful residue, and raises dissolved oxygen.

  4. Sludge separation

A tube settler separates the sludge, which is removed through a sludge or bag filter.

  5. Polishing

From an intermediate tank, the water is pumped through a carbon filter for final polishing.

  6. Reuse

Treated water collects in a tank, ready for its next use.
